Yes. We got a dog! We got her the week before Christmas, 2024!

We got her as a little puppy. Her name is Maeve Skye, and she is a Golden Retriever.
There are actually three different types of Golden Retrievers. The standard that you think of when you think of a Golden Retriever — sweet, loves food, long fur, golden yellow fur, sheds like crazy - that's called the Show Golden.
The giant white ones? Those ones are called English Cream Goldens.
But there are also ones that are a dark red, shorter fur, shed slightly less, and have about as much energy as a border collie — those are Field Goldens. Meant for running for hours, hunting, and swimming.

She is definitely not a couch potato, but she hikes with us, and is extremely smart! Isla trained her completely by herself, and she is well behaved unless there is water nearby, or mud. Water dog instincts definitely come through then! She has proven she can find the smallest of puddles in the middle of a dry desert where it hasn't rained for weeks, and comes home sandy, soaking wet, and extremely happy, until she finds out she has to take a shower. Not a huge fan of those!

She has climbed mountains with us, and in the picture above, is enjoying sitting peacefully after she rolled for half an hour on the glacier the picture shows her on . If you didn't know, most glaciers have a lower base that is grey and looks just like sand, but it is just debris that hides the white or light blue glacier that shows through on the top!
 

She just turned two years old, the day before Halloween! We may or may not have made her a dog-safe cake. We will neither confirm nor deny, as the pictures above definitely do not show any evidence whatsoever.

She is a real sweetheart, and a beautiful addition to the family!
