Moab, UT

Next Up: Moab, Utah. This is somewhere we've been to many times before, including solo on a bike trips over the last couple years, but never gets old. Beautiful scenery and awesome trails go a long way toward making a happy camper!

One of the first activities we did as a family was a hike in Dead Horse State Park. We did a loop around the canyon in the early AM, but it sure did get toasty by mid morning so we shortened it by a mile or two off our original plan.

Another family hike we did was the Devil's Garden hike in Arches National Park. We opted to do the full loop, and were blessed with amazing weather and relatively uncrowded trails (at least until the very end).

As usual I got a decent amount of mountain biking in, and racked up a few PRs on some old favorites (including my favorite Moab ride, Hymasa / Ahab). I was able to get a few rides in with the kids as well, including a "beat the sunset" type ride with Brom on the Rodeo loop (twice), the first ride requiring us to bail early for lack of time.

I did a few new rides as well, including Hymasa-Jackson, which had a heroes-only finale, complete with crazy steep and technical riding along the edge of the canyon with fantastic views of the river. It was so great I had us come back to it as a family later in our stay and do it as a hike.

We had originally planned on staying for 3 weeks, but due to the extremely hot weather and ever-present forest fire smoke, we opted to leave early and head back to Grand Junction for a week.
